More than 30 years ago I spent the summer living in the upstairs flat here. It was a barber's shop back then too, but rather more down market. We had to wade through piles of hair in the back room to climb the stairs to our flat which was infested with mice. All the walls had been painted black by the disgruntled former tenants. The shower was in the kitchen and directly overlooked the car park at the back - there was no shower curtain.
I can't remember a better summer. I shared the flat with my future wife and her brother. I found a career in social work. Our sound track for the summer was Ian Drury's 'New Boots and Panties'
