The hospital that was the venue for our training course last week had a strange take on fire exits. Also, the room was so cold that most people kept their coats on all day - for 3 days! Organisations spend thousands of pounds on training but don't seem to understand that the environment plays a significant part in determining how much people get out of the event. On this occasion not only was the room freezing but we had a flipchart stand with only 2 legs, a data projector stacked up on a pile of books shining on a bumpy wall, two flasks of 'hot water' with which to make tea and coffee for 15 people all day, all hosted in a room which even people working at the hospital had no idea where it was so most people arrived about 40 minutes late.
