Tony Ray-Jones' approach to photography

I got to see a really interesting exhibition of Tony Ray-Jones' pictures, curated by Martin Parr and shown alongside some of Parr's early work from The Non-Conformists. It is on at the Bowes Museum and included these pages from Tony Ray-Jones'  notes. Definitely something to try and remember! It reads:

Be more aggressive

Get more involved (talk to people)

Take simpler pictures

See if everything in background relates to subject matter

Vary composition and angles more

Don’t take boring pictures

Get in closer (use 50mm lens)

Watch camera shake (shoot 250th or above)

Don’t shoot too much

Not all eye level

No middle distance

Food for thought then..
Great shot and all good advice.
Well that sounds like decent advice.
Very good advice, especially getting in closer.
